December 8 Update…

Reminders:

  • The Christmas Program once again was a huge success!  A lot of hard work by Ms. Baker went into it and we hope you enjoyed it!
  •  Please remember to keep gifts for our class gift exchange as close to $5.00 as you can. Gifts are due some time the week of 12/11. Thank you!
  • Our Christmas party will be Friday, 12/22 from 12:00 to 1:00. You are very welcome to stop in if you would like.
  • Please send all outdoor gear to school with your child as winter has arrived.  Please label all of their belongings.  Also don’t forget to send shoes for your child to wear during the day.

Reading:

We have been studying the characters in our books.  We noticed that some of our characters change how they act throughout the books.  We noticed that we had characters who were calm and happy at one point in a book and then they might get angry later in the book.  Characters show a range of emotions throughout the stories and it was easy for our kids to notice how they change. We will continue to look at our characters to really focus in on what our characters like to do and what they don’t like to do. Understanding the characters helps us with our story retells!

Writing:

We continue to develop our craft of writing persuasive letters.  We have focused on stating our opinion to the appropriate audience, coming up with the best reasons to support our opinion, and having a closing for our letter.

Math:

We have just started  new unit in math.  Our Unit 4 in math will focus on tens and teen numbers, place value to 100, and strategies for adding larger numbers.  We will practice counting groups of tens.  We will study teen numbers (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19) and notice that every teen number has a 10 hiding inside along with some extra ones.

Music Program Tonight!

Tonight is the Holiday music program at Fellowship Church.  Please have your child in the hall by 6:15.  There will be signs with red arrows to direct you to the fellowship hall. The first grade program starts at 6:30.  I look forward to seeing you tonight and hearing the cheerful singing of the first graders!
